Goldenwest Employees To Help Paint South Ogden City Water Towers
OGDEN, UT: October 5, 2012 – A South Ogden City landmark is about to get a major makeover with the help of Goldenwest Credit Union employees. Beginning on October 8th, Goldenwest employees will be painting a mural on the South Ogden City water towers.
To help celebrate their 75th anniversary in 2011, South Ogden held an art contest across the state for professional and amateur artists who were current and former city residents. The contest was to design custom artwork for the giant water towers on the southeast end of town. An art exhibit and community input session was held showcasing all 28 submissions. The community was invited to vote for their favorite design. The winning mural design came from former South Ogden City resident Jill DeHann.
Once the design was selected, it took almost a year to get the elements in-place to begin painting the towers. South Ogden City worked with engineers, consulted with local paint companies and secured a grant from Weber County’s R.A.M.P. program to get the project to a near-starting point. They just needed volunteers to make it all happen.
That’s when the hometown credit union stepped in.
“Earlier in the year, Goldenwest called South Ogden City to find out if there were any community service projects coming up that their employees could be involved with,” said Christy McBride, Special Events Manager for South Ogden City. “It was perfect timing, because we were constructing plans to paint the towers, and needed helping hands to make it happen.”
Coincidentally, Goldenwest Credit Union celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2011 as well, so the project seemed to be a perfect fit.
“This year our organization set a goal to find a unique opportunity for our employees to get involved in a community service project,” said Kerry H. Wahlen, Goldenwest Credit Union President/CEO. “Painting the water towers in South Ogden City is a fantastic way to show our appreciation to the community for the support they have given our credit union over the years.”
The mayor is excited about the increased recognition the painted water towers will give the city.
“This is a great project for our community,” said South Ogden City Mayor Jim Minster. “Thanks to Christy McBride for creating this project and Jill DeHaan for her great design. I also express our heartfelt thanks to Goldenwest Credit Union employees for helping bring this creation to life. These water Towers will become a new icon in South Ogden City.”
Goldenwest Credit Union is donating an estimated 250 hours of employee time to paint the water towers. Painting the mural on the water towers is expected to take about one week to complete, depending on the weather.
