Equifax Data Breach
September 11, 2017 – Equifax announced last week that a data breach occurred within their system potentially impacting 143 million consumers across the United States.
As with most U.S. lenders, Goldenwest Credit Union reports loan data to all three credit agencies (Experian, Equifax, Trans Union). Although we use Equifax services, there has been no data breach at Goldenwest. The Credit Union’s member data continues to be safe and secure.
To learn more about the data breach at Equifax, including if your personal information was compromised, visit the Equifax website at www.equifaxsecurity2017.com. Or, you may contact their dedicated call center at 866-447-7559 daily from 9 a.m. until 3 a.m. Mountain Time.
As a reminder, you are legally entitled to three free credit reports each year from each of the major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). You can contact any of the individual bureau sites to request a credit report, or go to www.annualcreditreport.com to request your free annual credit report.
As always, we recommend you stay diligent in monitoring your Credit Union accounts on a regular basis for suspicious activity. Furthermore, as your Credit Union concerned about protecting your identity, we have additional services available for identity theft.
Fraud Detection and Notification
This free service is part of Goldenwest’s continuing efforts to quickly and effectively notify members when fraud is suspected on their accounts. Our Fraud Monitoring Center may contact you via email, text message and/or phone to notify you of suspicious activity. As such, it’s critical that your personal contact information with the Credit Union is current and complete. If you need to update your personal contact information, you may do so by visiting any branch location or logging into the online banking portal www.gwcu.org.
Fraud-Defender
In addition to credit monitoring, Fraud-Defender offers fully-managed identity recovery and expense reimbursement with packages starting as low as $2.95/month. You can enroll online at Fraud-Defender.
