Our Savings Philosophy

June 8, 2012

Years ago I read a quote by J.P. Morgan: “Take waste out of your spending and you’ll drive haste out of your life.”

Over the course of my career, I’ve found that statement to be quite true. Few things can provide greater peace of mind than a healthy savings account. From a young age, my wife and I have encouraged our children to set aside 10% of their income for savings and investments. It is never too soon to plan for a strong financial future.

At Goldenwest, we refer to our savings accounts as “core accounts”...because they truly are at the very center of our organization from which everything else grows. Each household and business should consider their savings account as their financial core.

A strong savings account does more than provide a rainy-day fund. It offers well-being, self-confidence and freedom. A person with savings can afford to think about long-term career goals rather than focusing on a job to pay for immediate needs. A person with savings can afford the privilege of being generous with their resources to benefit family members, neighbors and the community.

The ability to save has little to do with the size of your income. There are many well-compensated individuals who spend their entire paycheck as quickly as they earn it. Financial security doesn’t come from how much money you make, but from how much money you save.

We have an amazing staff that stands ready to help you grow your savings and plan for the future. I invite you to stop by any of our 19 offices to speak with a branch manager or new accounts representative about your savings plan.

Goldenwest continues to look for new ways and improve methods to better serve you. We recently announced our 20th branch office, scheduled to open inside the new Dick’s Market in Centerville later this summer. We look forward to providing this convenient location to our members who live and work in southern Davis County.

Bryce PetersonCongratulations to Bryce Peterson, who was recently promoted to the position of Vice President. Bryce is as much of a key player at Goldenwest as he was when he played football at Dixie College. We thank Bryce for his tremendous efforts and positive attitude during his 11 years with our organization.

It’s exciting to be part of an organization that makes a difference in the lives of 85,000 members and 260 employees. I welcome your suggestions on how we can best meet your financial needs. Also, I invite you to follow me on Twitter @GoldenwestCUCEO.

Have a great summer!
