Benefits of Membership
April 10, 2014
It is spring, which means the sun is shining longer and the grass is getting greener. For many people, it’s an ideal time to prep gardens for planting and begin plans for summer vacations.
At Goldenwest, we spent several months preparing for the core systems merger with USU Credit Union. With the merger completed in March 2014, USU Credit Union is now officially operating as a division of Goldenwest Credit Union. What does that mean? Quite simply, we can now offer USU Credit Union members all of the products and services available to Goldenwest members.
USU Credit Union members are earning dividends at higher rate on deposits. For example, members jumped from .01% APY to .10% APY on share savings rates. Prior to the merger, members opening a new 36-month CD at USU Credit Union earned 0.50% APY. Now, USU Credit Union members will earn 0.90% APY with a new 36-month CD. Before March 1st, USU Credit Union members could open CDs with terms of 24 months or longer. Today, they have options for shorter-term CDs, including our most popular term deposit – the 12-month Flex CD.
Significant savings are available to USU Credit Union members on loan products. Prior to the merger, USU Credit Union’s lowest auto loan rate was 2.89% APR fixed. Now, members can apply for auto loans with rates as low as 2.74% APR fixed or 2.49% APR variable.
USU Credit Union members are also enjoying reduced rates on credit cards. Nearly 600 members saw their credit card rate lower from 8.25% APR variable to 6.99% APR variable. Thousands of other members also experienced reductions in their credit card rates. In addition, USU Credit Union members now have the option to enroll in a points-based Rewards program with their Visa credit card.
One of the immediate benefits of the merger to USU Credit Union members is the expanded branch network. Not only do they have access to 26 Branches from Smithfield to St George, but they now can conduct transactions at 5,000 CO-OP shared branch locations nationwide.
Other new products and services available to USU Credit Union members include mobile deposit, closed-end short-term mortgages, and construction loans. Furthermore, our credit union launched a debit card rewards program a few weeks ago and we will soon introduce a new array of insurance products to all of our members across the entire organization.
We invite USU Credit Union members to take advantage of higher rates on deposit products, lower rates on loans, and reduced fees available for all Goldenwest members. Plus, as members of Goldenwest, USU Credit Union members will be eligible for the 2014 bonus dividend.
If you are Utah State University alumnus or simply love cheering on the Aggies, we invite you to join USU Credit Union. As a division of Goldenwest, USU Credit Union members are enjoying more money-saving benefits than ever!
Nothing gives us more satisfaction than helping our members reach their financial goals. We are eager to serve all of our Goldenwest and USU Credit Union members. Thanks for your loyalty and support.
Sincerely,
Kerry H. Wahlen
President/CEO
